How to register

To contribute to the web site and access information that is only accessible to MDAS members, you will need to register or sign-up to the web site so that it knows who you are, and also so that other members can identify you on the site.

You will need to think of a name that you would like to be known as on the site. You can use either your real name, a nick name, or something that you have made up (please keep it clean though!). Click the "Create new account" link on the left hand side of the page just below the "Log in" button. This will take you to a page where you can enter your information. You will only need to enter two items of information to get started.

Username - this is the name that you thought of above.
E-mail address - enter your e-mail address so that the web site can contact you.

You can skip the "Apply for role" and "Birthday" section - I will explain those later on.

At the bottom of the screen you will see a section called "CAPTCHA". This is an automated check to ensure that you are actually a person. All you need to do is type in the two words in the small white box. You will see three small buttons to the right of the white box. If you cannot read the two words, press the top button and the words will change. You can keep pressing the button until you can reads the words.

We need to have this feature to stop other computers signing up and causing problems on the site. Computer hackers write programs to make computers sign into web sites and create adverts similar to the junk mail which I am sure you all receive from time to time.

Now click the "Create new account" button at the bottom of the page. That is all you need to do. Now check your e-mail for a message from the site which will tell you your password.

Please note: All of the personal information that you enter on thispage is kept private. The only person who could possibly see information such as your e-mail address is the site administrator. I have provided this site for the benefit of the Society, and do not allow anyone else to see this information. In reality, only the 'computer' knows your personal information, and use of your e-mail address will be for communication that has been specifically requested by you. I work within the Computer industry and my primary job function is Security of a global computer system. I have tried to make this web site as secure as possible to protect your data - indeed, the law requires me to do so!

Once you have the e-mail with your password, you can sign into the site using the user name you chose above, and the password from the e-mail. Type the name you entered on the registration page above, and the password from the e-mail. If you are at home, click the box next to "Remember me" - this will make your computer remember your password for you. Now just click the "Log in" button. That's it! you are signed in as a registered user.

If you are still having problems, please send us a message using the Contact Form.

If you wish to, have a look at the Advanced User Settings page which shows you how to change some of the settings for your user id.
