Allotment Watch

A few months ago a new initiative was launched – Allotment Watch. This works on the same principle as Neighbourhood Watch which makes sure that information about suspicious or any illegal activity is reported to the appropriate people.

A record is kept by Geoff Fulford at Leigh Town Council of incidents of theft and damage at the allotments. Geoff e-mails details to Neighbourhood Watch so that a back up record can be kept. The system has worked relatively well, although there have been a couple of hiccoughs!

If an incident is witnessed, e.g. damage or theft is seen to be happening, the most appropriate course of action is to call the police immediately using 999. It really is important that the police are given the opportunity to apprehend those mindless individuals who commit crime at the allotments.

If damage, theft etc. is discovered after the event, report it to the police on Southend 431212 and then advise Leigh Town Council (during office hours) telephone 716288 or e-mail leighcouncil@btconnect.com

To obtain advice from your local Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) call 07817 968093: this mobile phone is held by your local officer, Scott Geary, or in his absence, a member of the NPT.

The phone has a voicemail facility and if you leave a message, you are guaranteed to receive a response within 24 hours. Please do not use this facility in an emergency or to report crime
